In-home Caregivers Carlsbad Nursing Home Report

In-home Caregivers near Carlsbad: Nursing Home Investigation

Study Shows that In-home Caregivers near Carlsbad may be Safer than Nursing Homes

Adult children of seniors should keep up with news relating to elderly care, especially if they are in the process of making long-term care decisions. Sadly, some families make these decisions with minimal discussion among themselves, changing their senior loved ones’ lives with barely a consultation. A report like the one recently issued by a local San Diego newspaper, though, should be enough to remind you that there are very serious issues to consider.

Poor Medical Attention

Investigators, concerned about the possibility of medical care failures within local nursing homes, looked through official records to get a picture of how residents with special health needs were cared for. They found several serious problems, which appeared to be widespread across facilities. First, the penalties for neglecting medical care and even for hiding residents’ health needs seem to be relatively mild. Facilities can expect a fine if they are found to have handled a resident’s health care inappropriately, but those fines are not even always obtained by state officials.

Insufficient Staffing

Unlike most in-home caregivers near Carlsbad, staff members at nursing homes are not always qualified for their jobs. The investigation found that many staffers, at least in our city in southern California, did not speak English well enough to communicate with elderly residents. The report found another problem, one that is “built in” to the system: While long-term care facilities are legally allowed to house residents with advanced medical conditions, they do not have to have staff members trained to provide medical care for those conditions. Thus a resident is in danger of suffering complications that might go unnoticed by untrained staffers.

Why Elect for In-home Caregivers in San Diego County?

One of the major advantages that in-home caregivers in San Diego County offer over nursing homes is a continued close relationship with family. Instead of handing over all care to a staff of unknown caregivers, we team up with family to provide only the care that is needed. And you can count on our caregivers to be friendly, capable, and ready to act in the event of an emergency.
