Robotic Caregivers In Rancho Bernardo?

AI Caregivers Near Rancho Bernardo

Robotic Caregivers in Rancho Bernardo Might Become A Reality In Our Lifetimes

AI stands for “artificial intelligence,” as you might know if you saw the Steven Spielberg film “A.I.” The movie featured robots that looked exactly like real people, but had greater strengths and greater weaknesses.

A new movie provides a less sci-fi and more realistic approach to robots, one that might well be relevant to caregivers near Rancho Bernardo. “Robot and Frank” is a film about a senior who is given a robot to act as a caregiver, and along the way the story raises questions about the practicality and ethics of using machines to care for the elderly.

Not Far Off

For years, we’ve been hearing that the age of AI caregivers near Rancho Bernardo and elsewhere is not far away. During the credits of “Robot and Frank,” you can see real robots conducting elderly care tasks. The technology is still experimental, of course, but in Japan (the world’s center of robot research), it looks like the Baby Boomer generation will be seeing quite a few robots throughout their retirement years.

Right or Wrong?

Is it morally wrong to entrust critical daily care tasks to a machine? Or is it a convenient solution to the impending need for caregivers, which might well exceed the number of workers qualified to provide care? We will certainly see endless debate about that topic, and you may even have to come to your own conclusion eventually, deciding whether or not to hire a robot for the care of your parent or yourself.

For Now

You probably won’t find AI caregivers in San Diego County today, except in the movie theater. As you consider the human caregiving services available to you in the area, make sure you select a company that offers all the non-negotiables: trained staff members, thorough background checks, supervision by managers, and constant communication with family members, to name a few. Also look for the qualities that robots will never be able to imitate: compassion, friendliness, and the ability to form a strong bond with your loved one.
